At the last workshop in May 2020, mental health Trusts providers in England discussed the approaches to supporting their staff wellbeing across the system. They have developed and are still developing a range of initiatives to support their staff during the COVID-19 outbreak. There is a vast library of resources which sign post staff to the appropriate support. However, an immediate issue is around psychological support for NHS staff. A long-term specialist support will be needed. What the provider Trusts can do to support their staff who experienced trauma in the post-pandemic phase? As there is a high risk of developing unfavourable mental health outcomes in the post-emergency phase, consequently, staff may need appropriate psychological support or interventions.
It was agreed to organise an additional one-off forum to discuss what kind of work the mental health providers could do in the system to support staff post COVID-19 outbreak. It is important to understand ‘Post Traumatic Stress Disorder’ and early symptoms. The system requires a big scale mental health support intervention. NHS staff needs space and time to process trauma, guilt and anxiety. It is also important to consider how long this support will be going for and if there are any preventative work that the Collaborative can do. The next workshop will explore these issues.
The workshop on psychological support for NHS staff is scheduled for 2nd July 2020 between 10.30am and 12.30pm. For further information and booking details, please contact Joanna Daci, Programme Operations Manager at jdaci@tavi-port.nhs.ukjdaci@tavi-port.nhs.uk
